Are all patients adjusted the same way?

In our office, the answer to that question is no.  We customize our treatments to each patient.  We offer a wide variety of chiropractic adjusting techniques and use a combination of these techniques during a treatment session.  We offer gentle instrument based treatments that allow us to precisely re-establish joint movement and improve alignment without any "popping".  The instruments we utilize for these treatments are the Activator and the Arthrostim. In addition, our treatment tables are equipped with "drops", which is part of a treatment technique called Thompson.  Thompson style drops are often utilized to get a "deeper" mobilization of the joint while still allowing the patient to comfortably laying in a neutral position.  Lastly, we also use Diversified and Gonstead adjusting techniques.  These are two of the oldest styles of chiropractic adjustments.  For these treatments, the patient is positioned in a way that allows the chiropractor to mobilize their joints with a low force thrust to cavitate the joint which commonly occurs with an audible "click" or "pop".  
When a patient comes to our office, we do a comprehensive exam and have a conversation with the patient about what their goals for care are and what treatment techniques they are a good candidate for.  If a patient has had a surgery, high blood pressure, osteoporosis/osteopenia, is in poor health, or is hesitant/uncomfortable with manual manipulations, we recommend the gentler treatment options.  End of the day, the patient has to be calm and comfortable with the treatment options to get the best results, so we listen to them and come up with a plan together.
